Coleford post office is closing temporarily - it is unclear when it may reopen

The post office in Coleford will be closing, leaving almost 3,000 residents from Coleford and surrounding houses without a local service.

The closure is imminent, with the last day of operation being Friday March 16.

People will now have to travel around three miles to the next post office either towards Radstock or Frome.

While the closure is set to be temporary, there is no date set for it to reopen.

A spokeswoman for the Post Office said: "Coleford Post Office will be temporarily closed from Friday March 16 at 5.30pm due to the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of the premises, which we do not own, from Post Office use.

"It is impossible to predict how long Coleford Post Office will be closed for but we will be working to restore Post Office service to the area as soon as possible.


"We understand and appreciate how much communities rely on our services and we apologise for any inconvenience caused by this temporary closure. In the meantime, customers can find Post Office services nearby including at our Mells, Stoke St Michael and Radstock branches."
