Post Office awards non-Horizon modernisation work to Accenture

The Post Office has awarded a £45 million contract to Accenture to modernise and support its back-office IT applications.

The three-year contract, which begins on 1 April 2026 and runs until 30 June 2029, covers the end-to-end hosting, operation, and maintenance of the Post Office’s core applications and platforms, but not the controversial Fujitsu developed Horizon system. Horizon led to sub-post masters being falsely accused of crimes by the Post Office, as the Fujitsu technology had major flaws built-in and covered up by both organisations.

The Accenture deal includes business-critical systems for finance, human resources, data management, reporting, integration services, and process automation, primarily delivered through cloud-based solutions.

Accenture will be responsible for ensuring the secure, resilient, and high-performance operation of these systems, including live service support, legacy system maintenance, incident resolution, and business continuity planning. The agreement also includes collaboration with the Post Office to drive continuous improvement, platform optimisation, and application modernisation, ensuring services remain compliant and fit for purpose as the organisation’s technology needs evolve.

The contract was awarded directly to Accenture, with the total value reaching £54 million including VAT. The standstill period for the award ended on 27 February 2026, and the contract is expected to be signed by 20 March 2026.
