A new banking hub has not been recommended for a village Post Office despite a community petition.
District councillors Vicky Edwards and Ian Campbell have been fighting to bring the hub to Abbots Langley, which would allow residents to withdraw and deposit money and have face-to-face appointments with bankers.
In order for it to be set up, Link – the banking consortium behind the scheme – needed evidence that the community would support its addition.
This led to a petition, launched in May 2025, but a recent meeting with Link revealed that it would not be recommended.
Conservative MP for South West Herts Gagan Mohindra has frequently updated residents concerning meetings regarding the hub on social media.
According to MP Mohindra, Link's reasoning for the denial is "there is already cash access facilities and services within a one-mile radius".
A Facebook post by the MP added: "Conservative Councillors Vicky Edwards and Ian Campbell have done fantastic work locally to show just how valuable a hub would be, and I’ll be raising this directly with the Financial Conduct Authority in the weeks ahead.
"Access to face-to-face banking remains essential for many residents and businesses, and I’ll keep pushing to make sure South West Hertfordshire isn’t left behind."
