Post Office has announced a scheme whereby 250 of its postmasters will work directly with the organization to help transform it into a ‘much more consistent form.’
The new initiative, labelled Adopt a Function, launched at the beginning of September. Described by Post Office as a “landmark move,” it is said to be the biggest initiative so far to involve postmasters in the business going forward.
A recruitment campaign to onboard a pool of postmasters began three months ago. This included raising awareness at postmaster events and meetings. All postmasters in the network received a leaflet explaining the initiative and urging them to sign up for the role.
The campaign encouraged postmasters to support engagement in 17 departments across the organisation. Post Office says 250 applied for a role, with recruitment still ongoing.
The newly recruited postmasters come from several regions and have varying levels of experience. They will reportedly have a say in the future of the Post Office network, working alongside teams in functions including revenue, technology, communications, transformation, operations and culture while continuing to run their branches. Post Office says the postmasters will be remunerated for their time.
Postmaster experience director Mark Eldridge said, “This is groundbreaking because it will now involve far more postmasters and their passion to help transform Post Office in a much more consistent form by having postmasters embedded right throughout the business.”
