I don't work in delivery but have done and I know all about the B+H culture , although obviously it is 10 times worse now than it ever was. First of all, I am a Rep and I think this dispute could and indeed should reenergise and invigorate members to become involved with this Great Union .
I believe EVERYONE Is culpable for allowing this state of affairs to continue . DOMS, Reps ,Dsms branches etc, It is now time that this stopped . If you are in a D.o and the rep is powerless or apathetic PUSH it up as high as you can go : Area , Branch, or even Headquarters. That is what we pay our subs for : REPPRESENTATION !
I think the problem is that some people are looked after by Doms or local managers and don't want to "Rock the boat" whilst others are shafted .From a fellow members point of view this is pure selfishness nothing more. From a Doms standpoint this is classic divide +rule by a level of management that know no better and have no other method of managing.
This must be challenged locally +nationally at every turn. However this absolutely requires the involvement of EVERY C.W.U member in EVERY office.
It maybe a total cliche and everyone has heard it many times before , BUT "You are the Union" it is 100% TRUE!! There are great reps out there who put there head above the parapet and are always willing to help . Help IS out there USE IT!
Use the I.R framework. YES it can be complicated but it is in place to help you . Let's start by everyone engaging with their local /unit rep rather than with the Dom or local manager. Have some Faith in your local /unit rep instead of kowtowing to the local manager who most likely is a FAILED postman !
Most of all have some Faith in the C.W.U nationally in that they are fighting incredibly hard against a privatised politically dogmatic employer. For YOUR future .
Just imagine for one minute the fun R.M would have with no C.W.U to reign them in.! Keep the faith .
There is power in a union !!
