Hi guys,
I started as a postie in September (9ish months ago) and still have not been able to order basic uniform.
As an explanation as to why, I was offered a job at an office a handful of miles away and the day before I started I received a call from the manager there to say that there was a job that had become available in the office local to me. I agreed to take the job there as it was much more convenient for me and also a bigger office with more overtime availability.
When I came to order my basic uniform the person at dimensions said that I couldn't order uniform because on their system I was still on the books at the other office. I asked my manager if they could bypass this and was told they'd sort it. In the meantime, one of the guys at the office gave me a few hand-me-downs so I at least had something to wear which I was grateful for but ultimately probably slowed the process down as the managers were less bothered about sorting it for me.
So, I kept asking if I'd been moved across yet and each time I was told 'next week'. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago that it was actually sorted but now I still can't get uniform because the uniform office is closed due to corona virus.
During the 9 months I've worn out an expensive pair of walking boots and have just about worn out a few pairs of trainers. I don't really think that's fair and also feel like I should have been provided with proper footware through winter.
I've had to manage without waterproofs until one of the guys found a spare storm jacket a couple of months ago.
What can I do? Can the union help? I just think it's getting a bit ridiculous that I've been there so long and haven't had uniform and am having to wear out my own shoes instead!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
