How do they decide who's the reserve? Pot luck or not?

From my understanding and Ive only been with RM since February but all new starters are reserves/spares. You won’t get a full time duty until you’ve been there a looooong time.

sorry I meant spare. They have 2 0r 3 spares most weeks and wondered how they chose who is spare. I've been spare 3 weeks on the trot now

As far as I’m aware all new employees are spares and as with everything else at Royal Mail everything is about seniority and length of service

As above, reserves/spares are usually the people with the least seniority/service. You may get a few who have more service than duty holders, but don't want to do a regular round.
