Eventually have an offer

Post by Micaj24 »

Hi Everyone,

Been lurking the forum and found this site very helpful in my quest to become a postie.

It has took around probably one month from my original interview to be offered a position, I was placed on the waiting list. I applied for many jobs and eventually had a choice between a couple of them.

I'm now onto the vetting, everything seems to be going well, day after I filled out my information, I was asked for my DVLA code, hopefully this means everything is ok? Don't know about the timings for the vetting stage.

My contract is 20 hours, 15:30 to 19:30, does anyone know what this will most likely involve? Driving & delivery or would it be mainly on foot or a bit of both?

For everyone on the waiting list, keep your chin up, I'm sure something will come up.

Thanks

Traditionally that would be a collections duty where you would be emptying red post boxes, post offices and some businesses. That would be mostly driving and singleton work (as in by yourself) in a fairly localised part of the town/city your office covers.

However, there are now Hybrid duties which can be a mixture of collection work and delivery work. That could be a lot of driving, or none at all, working alone, or as a pair, or a lot of walking with only occasional driving. The possibilities on a hybrid duty are infinite.

Then fairly recently they have started a LAT duty in some areas, this is basically late afternoon early evening delivery of parcels from specific businesses, however most offices will use these LAT duties to do deliver any excess or failed items - this would be a lot of driving, on your own and over a wide geographical area.

Thanks very much for the information. Sounds like I won't know untill I start and it could be varied. I'll post here and let you know what's involved when I start.

Hey, thanks.

I will do.

I actually applied for numerous positions, got a phone call asking what one I wanted, I had options and took the preferable one for me. I will still have to move though but that was always the plan and luckily I got the area I wanted. Just hope in the long run I can get more hours.

Filled in the security checks on day one, received email for DVLA code on day 3 and now I have been waiting around two weeks.

Trying to source footwear now as I have big wide feet, it's proving difficult. Thinking black Adidas cloudfoam, if I'm allowed and will probably have to buy a new pair more than I like but saying this the royal mail supplied boots may be ok, here's hoping.
