Hi been a posti for 14 years but have just rejoined after almost 2 years away, on my first day went to my office and was told I have been moved to another office as they are struggling, the office is 20 miles away and is a right pain. Can I fight it or not a leg to stand on? I remember this happing a lot.

Welcome back - I would imagine nothing's changed (for the better) since you've been away......

Don't think you can 'fight it' as you've possibly not signed for a particular duty and it's classed as a 'reasonable request' within the terms of your contract.

Lot's of threads about this on the forum - basically your start time should be from/at your 'parent' office, travel time to detached office included in your duty time (there and back) so your contracted hours finish time is at your 'parent' office. If you want to use your own vehicle to travel make sure you've got business insurance
(which covers travel to more than one place of work) and claim mileage too. (When I got business insurance it didn't cost me anything, they just updated
my contract, just depends on your company I think). If you don't have business insurance in the worst case scenario you have a 'bump'
and your insurance company find out you will not be insured. If not insist that your 'parent' office provide transport to get you there.

Well, you can't say no - directly.

But you can fight it by using the agreement.

1. They provide the transport, be that a van, public transport fares, or mileage (if you have the correct insurance to go to a 2nd place of work).
2. You start at your start time, at your home office.
3. You finish at your finish time at your office.

This is all supposing you are not employed as an area reserve and your contract states your office is the one where you started at.

Wow thx for all the info guys, my contract states my office only they only moved me as the office I have been is in trouble as they can’t get the staff and rounds not been going out. So I have kinda been thrown into it, did not really think about the insurance etc.

My contract was for 25hr but straight away I’m on 30 here so if it takes say 15 min to travel back to my office can I then say my finish time would be 13:45 instead of 14:00?

Yes - make sure you take your entitled break(s) at the detached office too - which means they'll be getting less bang for the buck out of you
and the detached office management will be less keen having you because it costs them too much.

Make note of how much OT you work at the detached office too - I've had managers at detached offices 'forget' to input my OT hours or tell my parent
office if they're different cost centres.

Yes definitely keeping track of hours as now how bad they are, I start at 8 and they are all made to take their meal break at 8:30 don’t see the point after 30 min work, also am I right in thinking that d2d should be thrown off or would this be my job?

It depends on the work plan. If you can't complete you know about the overrunning deliveries procedure (it's in downloads) and of course if D2Ds are not prepped then that's less time outdoors delivering.
