Any Chance of Post /without/ Driving

Post by wannabee »

Hi there,
I'm contemplating a sea change and leaving my present managerial role and starting anew with something more physical and, despite the myriad challenges, think Royal Mail might be for me. The only problem is, due to a pre-existing condition (that doesn't affect my physically in any way) I'm unable to get a licence. Is there ever the chance of postperson work without driving? Even informally (would there be people at the office who would prefer to drive all day, rather than splitting and being on foot?).
I believe in all other areas my work history, disposition and physical profile would be perfectly in order to apply. Someone recommended I contact HR in my area directly (SE) but I thought it would be better to ask here first.
Thanks for your time.

Probably not directly through Royal Mail but you could potentially do what I did - was a Christmas Casual sorter in 2017, continued onto Delivery in the new year, was transferred to Angard when my casual contract ended, and received a permanent 27.5hr contract with RM in May and I don't drive. I do a fair bit of overtime and work my days off which most definitely helped, usually 50 hours a week minimum.

Unfortunately not. No post people are hired without a full UK licence.
However, if you get a duty on Collections at Christmas, you are likely to be working within the office sorting letters & packets & will have no need to be driving. I have experienced members of staff under driving age doing this duty.
