New to Royal Mail and nursing my 2nd Shin splint!

Post by Dolphinswim »

I started with Royal Mail around 2 months ago. The physical side is taking some getting use to. I wear a fitness tracker and on average walking around 11 miles per day on the round I'm on. Unfortunately a few weeks in I got shin splint in my right leg. Didn't know what it was until I went to minor injuries. I had no choice but to take the next day off sick to rest the leg which did help. After a few weeks and wearing different shoes with high arch support as recommended it resolved. 2 days ago I then got shin splint in my left leg and it's killing me. I have a day off today which is lucky and get plenty of rest and ice. Has anyone else experienced shin splint or other simular injuries and how you deal with it around working ? It is a worry as I don't want to take anymore sick days. I did think about asking to reduce to 4 days a week instead of 5 until my body is use to the physical side and injuries resolving. This is a complete lifestyle change for me coming out of a career in NHS and lost 6 stone in weight with slimming world. Any advice is very much welcomed.

Stretch your legs before you go out on delivery and when painful try an anti-inflammatory drug.
