Good Morning,
I have just received my start date email and I have some questions.
Is there overtime all the time or does it depend on the DO?
When will my first pay day be if I start on the 19th?
Any tips for a new postie?
TIA

Start date & Questions
I've received my start date today as well
Having spoken to some mates who are posties, the general opinion is that there is 'normally' OT available, but it does depend on DO and it also depends on workload.
I assume your starting on 19th Feb? You get paid for your basic hours in the week that you work them, and your OT the following week. So I would think that you'd be paid your basic 25/30 hours or whatever your on on the 23rd.

1. Overtime is dependant on the office, but in general, most offices run on it. However, I wouldn't volunteer for any till you get your feet under the table, as a new starter the office will have a training budget and you'll probably be claiming on your own duty anyway.PostieClo wrote:Good Morning,

2. Paydays are Fridays, there is no week in hand except for late overtime. So you'll probably get 2 days pay on your first day. If not then a week later.

If your Welcome/Induction Day is 18 Jan then you will be paid for 18 Jan. Depending on your contracted hours you will probably entitled to overtime for that day as well - something to be sure to mention when you get to your DO.
As general advice, be careful about identifying yourself on here. Even saying which office you are at could be used to 'trace' you and everything you post.

What kind of OT will I be doing?
Will it be another route or helping to get the next mornings delivery ready?

More than likely parts of other routes as this is where the vast majority is available.PostieClo wrote:What kind of OT will I be doing?

But, OT can be in the form of any Postal work, Prepping (getting duties ready), IPS (Sorting Mail to duties), Collections, or even taking vehicles to be repaired.
However, as you haven't started yet I wouldn't even concern yourself with the OT. It is a steep learning curve just getting used to the basics, nevermind the impact on your body till it gets used it.
