Is now a good time to join the RM?

Post by mateoboom »

Evening all,

I have an interview tomorrow for a postman job with driving and have been doing my research both in terms of doing well in the interview and the current climate regarding the Royal Mail. I've been reading through threads on pensions, privatisation, strikes and various doom and gloom and have started to question whether now is the right time to be applying for a role within RM. Would it be wise to see how things pan out over the next few months and possibly come back to it at a later date? Any opinions/views/advice would be greatly appreciated :)

Many thanks for any replies and apologies if I'm breaking any forum rules!

For the moment forget what is going on, grab the good bits of info we have for newbies and those looking for a job and do your best to get the job.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Hey Postman, do you think if I'm offered a position it will be safe for the foreseeable future? Worried about the privatisation and security of the job...

You'll be fine, it's very rare of them to just cancel contracts. We always need posties.

If Royal Mail has their way, NOW, is probably the best time to start working for them.

Like any large organisation undergoing a major change, there will always be issues. Hopefully, we can get them sorted before any strikes are needed.
