Hello everyone,
i posted a couple of weeks ago asking questions about an interview I was going to attend with royal mail, I received an email today saying that i have been successful and how now moved onto the security checks. I am really nervous about this as they have asked me for 5 years of employment and address history, there is a large 3 year gap in my employment, but this was on my cv, also what are they checking? do they contact previous employers? could someone provide me with what they are looking for? thanks
ANNOUNCEMENT : ALL OF ROYAL MAIL'S EMPLOYMENT POLICIES (AGREEMENTS) AT A GLANCE (Updated 2021)... HERE

Like most firms they sometimes check references and sometimes not.
Also in the security checks and the 5 year work history all they are looking for is a history of honesty and trustworthiness.

When completing your details please ensure that your activity history covers the last 5 years. If you leave a gap of more than 14 consecutive days in your activity history you will not be able to progress with your application. For your current activity please ensure that you leave the end date section blank. Please note the 5 year activity history can include periods of un-employment ,sabbaticals and periods of study.

Hi thanks for your reply, I have 2 references picked out already, if they want them will they ask or just pick companies in my 5 year history and ask any at random?
I can account for my full 5 years, however 3 years I was unemployed prior to my most recent jobs, I think this will put them off.

Don't know could be either.Decpassat06 wrote:Hi thanks for your reply, I have 2 references picked out already, if they want them will they ask or just pick companies in my 5 year history and ask any at random?
It might, but you will definitely ruin any chance if you lie. This job needs honest people, if you lie on your application, they will find out and they will sack you. That will look even worse on any future application for any job.Decpassat06 wrote:I can account for my full 5 years, however 3 years I was unemployed prior to my most recent jobs, I think this will put them off.
Of course, that fact that you are being honest by stating you were out of work shows your honesty and may tip the balance. To be honest,I wouldn't worry about it, I didn't work for 6 months, and quit my previous job quite vociferously, I was honest about it and here I am nearly 13 years later.
