Hi Posties. Im Steve. Recently went for an interview, passed the interview , but didnt get the job as can happen so I'm on a shortlist. Had a call today and basically accepted the role offered.
One main concern I had was about when my fixed mortgage ends next year, what repercussions would there be. Turns out that mortgage company see no problem as Im not borrowing any more. It would only be a problem if moving house. That was a relief.
I know there are probably posts on here regarding o/t and full time contracts, but I'm going to ask anyway.
How long have you had to wait to get a full time and is o/t as frequently available as what i have heard.
This is the only stumbling block for me

Well my initial interview was in july. I passed the interview but there was someone else who had slightly better marks(points) than me.

Overtime is generally available but of course it depends on the office and its staffing levels.
A Full-time contract is frankly unlikely at present due to the change RM are undergoing. Some at my office have been waiting 10 years for one so don't base any decisions on it definitely happening.

What sort of changes are in the pipeline?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Overtime is generally available but of course it depends on the office and its staffing levels.

They way we will be delivering and processing mail, but to be honest thats something we don't need to worry about at the moment, but it does mean that in the long run most contracts will be less than full time with around 30 hours being the maximum at some point.Gaggy wrote:What sort of changes are in the pipeline?TrueBlueTerrier wrote:Overtime is generally available but of course it depends on the office and its staffing levels.

Surely how do Rm expect people to live off just a basic part time contract I fail to see. I have basically got the job, its mine on a 25hr contract at Rochester, just sent of Dvla jargon etc, but I am no way ready to accept the job until I know that overtime is always available. I have a mortgage and family, but I am excited about joining.
I wonder if anyone reading this knows of or has worked at Rochester????

Im guessing that when o/t is done it involves doing another route or is it based in the DO?Zarkandar wrote:Differs from office to office' I have been with Royal Mail 4 months n have only done less than 40 hours per week twice , 52 last week n I'm on a 20 hour contract. I doubt you'll ever see a full time contract

Start a window cleaning round? Im just in the process of joining, passed interview, just waiting for the checks to come through.
Ive already got a decent round which i fit around my current job, but its winter time and its our busy period so wont be much time for windows except weekends. Alot ofwhy ive gone for this job is ive worked out that based on the 28hr contract i would get i could rake in an extra 150 to 250 a week on window cleaning alone. Granting the weather permits. So would be looking at average £450 a week. My uncle does the same thing and he's pulling in some decent money.
Even if its not window cleaning, theres other things to do to bring in extra money with the spare time.

I'm thinking of contacting the manager at the DO i have applied for to ask a couple of questions? Would this be ok does anyone think or is it not the correct way of approach?
