Office worker looking to be a postie/sorter

Hi

I am a mid 30s guy from Edinburgh recently made redundant from my office based job and it's only type of jobs I have had since leaving school. I have always hated answering the phone, am useless at it, don't want another office job and have always loved the idea of being a postie. I was really hoping someone could give me their thoughts on a couple of questions I had:

All the jobs I see are with driving is it simply the case if I don't drive I won't get a job at RM or could I work at the sorting office?

Is the sorting office anything like what Amazon employees complain of in that you are simply giving too little time to do too much and everyone is unhappy in their job or is it simply that it is a busy job that is achievable?

Are the temp contracts usually full time or are people often employed with massive fluctuating hours from week to week like zero hour contracts or is their usually work available if you prove competent?

Is temp work readily available usually or is this type of job so sought after that I am unlikely to get work due to my past work experience?

I am not worried about the pay, happy with the idea of standing on my feet all day but is there anything else you would warn/advise people of before applying?

Any advice would be really appreciated.

Jobs in EMC are hard to come by, mostly done through internal transfer or agency, if you want to be a real postie you'll have to learn to drive. Chances of full-time substantive employment with royal mail are practically zero.

My advice would be dog walker, there seems to be money in that.
