I have been offered a one day a week (Sunday) job at my current job, it's for a 9 hour shift. The royal mail have offered me a 20 hour a week contract.
Am I able to do both? They won't conflict and I'm still able to do over time. I just wondered what the rule was.
I'd just like to keep my foot in the door with my currect job as I enjoy it and I'd love a full time royal mail job but I can't count on that and my RM contract to start with is 6 months.
Thank you for information,
Sarah

As long as its not with a direct competitor you should be fine. However, watch out for the 48hour working rule, unless you have opted out, you may need to inform both employers.

Re: a second part time job...
Check your contract to see if it says anything about it. This is what it said on my part time contract, a few years old now:
'Your employment with Royal Mail is a part time occupation. You must not engage in any other employment such that you would be unable to meet your contractual obligations to Royal Mail. Further, any additional hours of work you may perform for another employee aggregated with those that you perform under this contract must not exceed the limits that apply under the Working Time Regulations 1998 or any agreements that relate to working time. You must not be involved in or have an interest in the activities of any organisation whose business is in competition with that of Royal Mail or any of its business units or subsidiaries and must advise Royal Mail of any other employment which you hold or intend to take.'
Basically, go for it so long as it isn't a RM competitor, keep a careful eye on your total working hours so as not to fall foul of the law, and tell your DOM anyway. A few at ours have other part time jobs also.
