For recent newbies and the old hands - I'm due to start on a 6 month P/T contract but is it common for all new contracts to state:
'The reason for your contract being for a fixed term is that it is anticipated the requirement for your employment is likely to cease
on or about the expiry date because of business reorganisation'.
Is this one way of keeping all newbies on their toes?
Do most new recruits who start on initial 6 month contracts get signed on unless they're a complete waste of space?
If so do contracts just keep getting renewed for just a 6 month period at a time or for a longer time period?
Thanks
YB

Yes - although if your unit is about to undergo a revision at the end of the contract its possible they may not set you on. However at present I think I have only heard of about 3 or 4 not being set on again out of apparenlty 100s of temps who have signed up to RMC.yellowbelly wrote:Do most new recruits who start on initial 6 month contracts get signed on unless they're a complete waste of space?
Yes not usually any longer, but sometimes shorter.yellowbelly wrote:If so do contracts just keep getting renewed for just a 6 month period at a time or for a longer time period?

One thing to watch out for, the law says 4 years, but the Union has an agreement with RM that if you are still here after 2 years they will look at making you a permanent employee.
