Interview advice gratefully received

Hi All

I have recently applied for a 25 hour postman role with driving. I have recently been made redundant from a role in education that I had been doing for over 7 years and I am really hoping to get this job. I have an interview later this week and would appreciate your thoughts on what i should focus on. I have picked out some useful information on the Royal Mail Website including strategies and initiatives and have viewed some previous posts on here for similar requests, but any help you can give would be gratefully received. My interview was two years ago but I expect it is much the same now. The main questions I remember were to do with providing examples of things you had done such as: "when working in a team", "when you had to change plans at the last minute" and similar things to that. I was also asked to give five things you should check on a vehicle before driving it, eg: tyre condition, fluid levels, lights etc etc

make sure you check and triple check you have all the ID and other documentation required

If you don't the interview part won't even happen!

Many Thanks "fb1969". I've had my interview and the questions you mentioned did come up. I feel I could have answered some of the questions better, but overall I am quite pleased. Many Thanks "feduppostie" Yes you're right there does seem a lot identification details required, but I came prepared. I had put all the photocopies in separate numbered plastic folders (maybe a little OCD, but at least it made that part run smoothly). Thanks for coming back, that sounds similar to how I felt afterwards. It may be longer than the weekend before you hear anything, in my case everything came by email or by logging in and checking the status - I didn't speak to anyone during the entire process apart from at the interview!

Still waiting at the moment, good tip about checking the status though. At the moment it still just shows attended Interview, I'll just have to be patient. Your last comment surprised me, it makes me think that we are just considered as numbers. If Royal Mail want to be considered as having excellent customer service, surely this should also be the case when looking to recruit. I guess its the supply and demand issue, but in my opinion it shouldn't be that way. Anyway many thanks for coming back. Cheers Hotspur Lad

Wait till you are in Hotspur, it then becomes evident that's all we are, even if you've been in the Job 25 years and more.

Yeah, I passed the interview process, just waiting for the checks to be made. Can't wait to start, many thanks for everyone's input on here, you have been very helpful. What do you find is the most enjoyable part of being a postman/postwoman?

After I had the email to say I'd got the job I received another one asking for my bank details (not happy emailing them but I had no choice) and also to email a picture for the ID card. A few weeks after starting there was no sign of the ID card so a lino asked me to email him a picture. So the photo on my ID card was a "selfie", just one of myself without any celebrities in the background

Well done on getting there, keep checking the status or your inbox.

Agreed, the best part is the outdoors part - almost regardless of the weather.
