Credit check after interview?

Hi,
Interviewed recently and as I was leaving they said I’d be contacted if I was successful and then security checks could start and credit checks..

I get security checks but a credit check?
He said due to handling credit cards etc during the job.

My credit isn’t the best following a nasty divorce but just because I’m poor I’m not a thief!
It made me worry now that my interview was good but I now won’t get the job as my credit is rubbish

Pretty sure that is nonsense. You would be handling other people’s credit cards so your credit rating is irrelevant.

Sounds like a mistake to me, mind you they're probably trialling the latest idea of taking credit card details so they can charge us for stuff like uniform, filling the van up and perhaps even for the pleasure of working here
