Delivering parcels, day 4 and enjoying it

Post by Jay78 »

Started working last week on Friday as a parcel delivery driver. Really enjoying driving around in the sunshine, sure beats being stuck in a warehouse all day.
I bet my tune will change on my first bad weather day :cry

As a temp the training was simply being sent out as a buddy with another temp worker and being taught on the job. The following day I was already out by myselfvwith 60 parcels.

Today a manager from another sorting center was sent with me and he pretty much delivered all the parcels whilst I drove and he loved it. Only 30 parcels.

Overall the place is pretty disorganised yet it all seems to work itself out. Obtaining a pda and a van and working out which route your taking can be an arduous task.

P.s

Can anyone recommend a system for sorting parcels? Once all parcels are scanned into the system and your route has loaded what is the easiest easy to sort into order?
I've basically spread the parcels across the floor and had to number them which takes forever

Alphabetical ordering is a decent method, means you can find it quickly when you're at it.

could be a Parcelforce driver, or a casual brought in to clear up after the strikes. Its not very clear from the OP, but I think PF.

Obviously their workload doesn’t include delivering letters to 500+ houses.

This is definitely not Parcelforce driver. It is one of the strike breakers recently brought in to clear the tracked. 30 to 60 parcels for a whole day. I call it part-time, especially the lower end of the scale. Obviously Royal Mail is awash with cash and they are happy to splash a day's wage to clear on average 45 parcels a day at the same spitting at their own workers.

There’s a new feature on the Outdoor PDA app… Van Loading. Basically tell the app how many “zones” you want to split your van load into (perhaps separated by trays/bags) and you take your york of “unsequenced” parcels and then scan them (again) at the van. The app then tells you which “zone” you should place your parcel in the van. Makes more sense when you actually do it.

The other option is as mentioned, put them in alphabetical order, smaller ones in trays.
Or just spend 10-15 mins indoor (if you have the luxury of space) to sort and number them and then chuck them in bags.
