Buy a cheap waterproof coat from Lidl or similar and wear it until you get the uniform one.
I understand where the 6 weeks’ wait policy is coming from budget background in case new starters decide to leave, but then again some people, perhaps like myself, would’ve appreciated being provided with adequate clothing to do the job that they applied for, or at least be informed about the 6 weeks’ wait before using their own expensive gear.

There has been ZERO communication from my incompetent manager/s nor the ‘coach’, 90% of the information I know is sourced from fellow posties or from this forum. Royal Mail has a lot to be ashamed of regarding new starters, if people usually leave within 6 weeks? Perhaps this is one of the reasons why.

I have not left, yet. Other than a few bullies and the incompetent system of how the DO is run, I can honestly say that this is the easiest money I’ve ever earned.

I don’t think my 6 months probation will end in a successful offer if my manager remains the same, they aren’t the best, and I’ve put my foot down every time I was ‘told’ to do someone else’s job, they don’t like it, but I won’t be anyone’s doormat nor will I be working to put money in anyone else’s pockets while they’re sat home having a drink.

Royal Mail is losing to the competition, and the reasons are crystal clear for me now.

Hi.

For some reason I've lost this thread. I am glad you manage in such a badly managed DO. Let me tell you something.

In terms of uniform I wouldn't bother with waterproof trouser, they are not that good. Same goes for the red lightweight jacket I use it mainly as protection from wind as when it really rains water get through. Even the bigger, thicker jacket isnt that great but it does the job so its worth having and I find the fleece very good too. It will keep you warm and protect from small showers to some degree. If I were you I'd go for polo shirts, try to get at least 5 of them so they can last you a working week. Long trouser of course are essential and shorts. Get your own shoes I can recommend sketchers, very comfortable and lightweight and surprisingly dry even if it rains at times. You can get them at £40-45 a pair.

Your probation will almost certainly be extended another 6months but thats nothing bad I think this is how it is speaking to fellow workers. Your pay rate will go up too I believe.

Managers are very bad to deal with I have gone above and beyond to maintain a healthy relation with managers trying not to work for free and cross the point where it would be as***licking. As soon as I needed a small favour they didnt even try to accommodate and instead were looking to make a saving to the point that I was wrongly deducted money but I got over it. Could have gone union way but I somehow find them not very helpful. It all helped me to make decision to follow the right procedure and work to your time and expect absolutely nothing from management. Working this way may not spare you from bullying but you nothing bad will happen to you or your job. You just have to have thicker skin but I think it goes for all the posties working in RM nowadays.
