RE: Romec: Loss of POL Work TUPE



Further to LTB 530/14 reporting the TUPE transfer arising from loss of POL work, on 1st October sixty six engineers, together with a number of members in Admin grades, transferred on TUPE terms to Norland.


Contractual Terms and Conditions of the members affected are of course protected by TUPE legislation, but this does not extend to protection of pensions. I am pleased to say that the union was successful in ensuring that equivalent pension arrangements were put in place for members transferring to Norland. In the case of members of the Royal Mail Pension Plan an adapted version of the Prudential Platinum Plan has been put in place, which has been certified by the union’s pension advisors, First Actuarial, as meeting the broad compatibility criteria for public sector transfers. Members of the DC schemes will have access to Cofely’s DC scheme which provides a matching employer contribution at higher rates than the existing DC schemes in Romec.


Norland has confirmed that it will continue to recognise CWU for collective bargaining on behalf of the members who have transferred. Two representatives have been nominated from among members now working for Norland who will be working with one of the Romec National Engineering Representatives, Ged Garside, to ensure effective representation for CWU members in Norland.
