Hourly rate after being kept on as Xmas casual

Post by val33 »

Hi all,

My local centre is still busy after Xmas, so around 1/3 of the Xmas casuals were offered the chance to come back and work until the end of January. I believe the Xmas casual contract runs to the end of January so we're on the same pay for now.

They now anticipate it will be busy in February too, so we're being transferred to Angard in order to come back next month.

Will the pay be likely to increase once we're on Angard contracts, or can we expect the same measly minimum wage?

Thanks

Pay will drop to minimum wage for Angard until you get to the 12week threshold for the AWR.

It will be lower than what you get as a casual as that's not minimum wage.

Your probably better asking other Angard workers, or the agency themselves for a definitive answer as Angard pay rates are not nationally based, they are more localised and shift based. But as Robsdean posits, RM casual pay is probably higher than Angards

I know that they pay more for Night shift and Sunday + Sunday Night shift, didn't realise that it wasn't minimum wage for everyone until the 12 weeks of shifts were done.

Thanks all. I was unlucky enough to be in a Parcel Sorting Centre that paid minimum wage for Xmas casuals (£8.72 per hour), so looks like it will be the same with Angard now.

It's a bit frustrating actually, they had Xmas casual jobs in other cities paying much better, but ours was low for some reason...

Once you reach 12 weeks the hourly rate should go up to at least £10.50 more if on lates/nights. It depends on the mail centre, mine pays £11.65 for days. It's 12 weeks with a shift worked to qualify for the higher rates, not necessarily 12 consecutive weeks.

If I remember correctly Royal Mail Christmas casuals who went straight onto Angard their pay weeks counted towards AWR.
Its going back some so it may have changed.
