First shift today

Quick question, hopefully someone can help.

I have been given my first shift today (6-10) yet I've not had an induction yet.
I was told to turn up at 5:30 for my induction....half an hour lol.

tbh I'm a hard worker and just get stuck in but half an hour to learn my role seems bizarre.

Does that seem right?

Sounds about right, it's probably just how to push a york or lift a bag. I don't think they even bother with an induction at my mail centre and you just pick up things as you go along anyway.

Lifting and pushing is defo something I can do without instruction.

Well induction was last night and consisited of showing me nothing about the job but plenty about H&S (which was common sense)

It was a case of being thrown in at the deep end and not being shown a thing, just pick up as you go.

I get the impression that RM staff hate Angard staff lol.
They were nice to me (being a 6ft 5 tattooed skinhead helps) but they were pretty rude to other 'non uniformed' staff.

I imagine it varies from place to place. A good deal of RM are only RM because they had to start via Angard. That's the case in my city and it's a major Mail Centre. There are Angard that worked for over 3 years before they got a contract.

Even as Angard myself I get annoyed at some of the other workers. It goes without saying that despite being big buildings, you can't just leg it around with a york full of letters to FSM machines without being careful. They can easily weigh up to 100kg or more and some people are just irresponsible, especially the newer Angard workers at times.

I've never had any issues though with RM staff. They're a good bunch at my place and always helpful if you forget something. They know we are just trying to earn a living as well and often times get lumbered with the hard graft, but at the end of the day we earn good money for what we do and we could earn a lot less for doing a lot worse.
