UPDATE!
Christmas casual jobs in the east are still being advertised, but those who have applied are still waiting to be security checked. If they check their candidate profile, they will find that it doesn't say processing security checks but application withdrawn!
On emailing the helpline, was eventually told to just turn up on the start day, unless told otherwise before then!
