seriously why were they created?
finished my second year as a Christmas Casual at Peterborough Outhouse, and this year, there was alot of mini yorks, left standing around the Outhouse, seemed on one wanted them.
Certainly unless we were really strapped for the normal full sized Yorks, people pretty much just ignored them. Secondary sort had no use for them, since they (me, alot of the time) needed to sort into full size Yorks, to go on the lorries.
Even worse when marking something on the work flow sheet, they were marked the same as a full York, making the figures inaccurate, however with new starters, and agency staff buzzing around, somehow I think that data was worthless anyways, betting alot of people just didn't mark stuff, and there was a number of times, I went to make a mark, and saw people were not fimilar with the |||| and then a / system. (sorry got distracted from my main point)
Aside from using them for PE or foreign, when full size yorks were hard to come by, (or at least empty ones with sleeves in), what was the point of them? other uses also included, holding peoples coats, on the few days it was warm enough to work without a coat.

They're meant for the sorting and/or transporting of work within an office only

They are useless though, can't get enough onto them and they hurt my back when pushing them..............but the WCM team say that they're the way to go

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: Whats the point of mini yorks?
RM will probably replace all alts and koffins eventually with mini-yorks under WCM as neither the alts nor koffins don't have any breaks on them.
Does anyone actually know if either alts or Koffins are still manufactured in any case? I've not seen any new ones of either for about 5 years.

I am not overly sure what the point of it was, didnt use one in 2011, and I would say the place ran alot smoother.POSTMAN wrote:So,when RM come out with the,we had x% extra work this xmas,it's a load of bollox.

The idea was that that Primary sort the post, and then when one of the Yorks is full, they take it to "Roads" and tick their sheet. Secondary come take the York, and tick their sheet.
Im honestly not sure what they hoped to learn from the exercise, other than the fact that having newbies on Primarys slows things down, but generally by the next day its not an issue. If you want to know how much work Secondary has just look at the "roads" area, its either full of Yorks or not.
If a Koffin is what I think it is, I saw a couple of those at March, on Saturday. Not sure how replacing them with mini Yorks will help, if they are meant to be used in a smaller area, mini Yorks, only being mini height wise.

If the ALTS are to be replaced can I take one home ! The kids would have great fun flying round the garden in it.
