Christmas Casual pay rate?

Dear Angard / Royal Mail,

I have just finished my second week on nights as a Christmas Casual at Royal Mail YDC.

When I applied for the position, the advert on the RM website stated the pay rate to be almost £9 per hour. More than working days, and the reason that opted for night shift.

On receipt of my first wage slip, it seems that i have only been paid £6.73 per hous (£251.25 / 37.30) hours. Please can you confirm what the correct pay rate should be?

Also, why have i only been paid for 37.30 hours when i worked a 37.50 hour week?

Are you a Royal Mail casual?

If so ....

The payslip will show 37 hours 30 minutes, they do not show decimal hours but seperate the hours and minutes with a full stop, which is 37.30 and equates to 37.5.

Is the 37.30 including or excluding your breaks?

Is the amount you say the gross figure or the net figure - i.e have you had any deductions NI and/or Tax? If so what is the gross figure?

The time before midnight may be paid at the day rate and not the night rate - check what is in your contract.

Normally, if you log into the Royal Mail website and go to the job you have been hired for in 'My Application' you can still see the pay rates - usually after the decription of the work and job.

Last year I was paid the basic for nights at first (£6.58) rather than the £7.84 that was advised on the website under "My Applications" . Chase them up for the correct rate. They eventually paid the correct amount.

There seems to be local rates for nightshifts, more than for other shifts
