Prevented from working as RM casual earning £7.84 plus

Two years ago as an RM Xmas casual I did nights at Dorset MC and earned £8.01 ph

Last year as a Angard Xmas Casual I worked nights at Winton DO and earned £7.84. as per webiste quotation (after a fight... was paid £6.58 at first)

This year I decided to stick with Angard as their letter and website intsruction prevented me applying for RM Xmas casual ,
so I decided to apply for lates, as the money would still be good under AWR (was asked about this a few months ago and it was confirmed two weeks back I'd be doing 2pm-10pm from 26th Nov onwards)

Last week I only got Monday and Tuesday shifts, the rest of the week was then cancelled and have phoned Angard this morning .. "there's nothing on the system ATM"

So effectively between them Angard and RM have prevented me from working for them. If I'd have left Angard and applied for RM, or been given the option to work as an RM casual while staying on Angards books, I could have been working full-time at the Dorset MC in the four weeks leading up to Xmas.


What's made it worse is I wasn't paid on Friday(30th Nov) for the work I did W/E 23rd Nov

Payroll said the managers hadn't sent the timesheets and could I ask about it on my next shift. I have some doubt if there will ever be a next shift

There should be a next shift - just have to hope there is not a 28 day gap between them.

At the end of the day the bottom line in all of this is:-

1) As yet a number of us are not working

2) We haven't applied for any other work either with Royal Mail OR any other company offering Christmas work. BECAUSE OF A LETTER FROM ANGARD ASKING US NOT TOO,

3) Those who have work at RM since the inception of Angard in Oct 2011 have now qualified for parity rights with regard to pay.

4) Even those of us with a break of more than 28 days without a shift ARE STILL ON ANGARDS BOOKS, however I have been told that I need to be re-vetted and this can take 3 weeks.

My conclusion is that those Angard Casuals with parity rights will be left to rot with no work offered this Christmas, a nasty way to treat people but the best way to forget about a total shambles that was/is Angard. The upside for RM is there will be no need to pay parity rates and will return to direct supply of Casual labour at min wage.

Before you ask NO i'm not in the union BUT surly the CWU should be looking at this as a matter of principle.

Can I ask that anyone that is experiencing problems this year to put you comments on the "Angard Casuals v RM Casuals" thread. Its better to keep it all in one place!!

Finally I would urge you write to "Just Say It" justsayit@royalmail.com still waiting for a reply on my email sent on 22nd Nov. But hey its Christmas and they are probably very busy!!

Of course RM are going to use Xmas casuals at £6.20 an hour before they use regular Angard or Manpower temps on a higher rate. It's wrong, but it's happening!!!
