Mount Pleasant Knockback - Any Thoughts?

Post by paul61 »

Hi All

I'm a first-timer at this Christmas Casual business and am wondering already if its been a waste of time and effort! Attended a registration event there November 9 and was given an offer letter for 3 heavy-duty weekends (Sat, Sun 6am-8pm, Mon 6am-6pm) starting December 8. This wasn't in line with my preference but was told that it was take-it-or-leave-it but a solid offer - need the money so said yes.

This Monday (26 Nov) a phone call from a John Barnes to say they were withdrawing the offer for operational reasons, that I'd been placed on a waiting list & I might or might not receive a call for other work in the next week or two. Could give no indication of how likely this was. He was apologetic but in a weary perfunctory way - I got the impression he'd repeated the same line a few times that morning!

From looking through this forum it seems that this is probably a pretty familiar story (tho I can't find any reference to it happening in relation to Mount P. I guess for one I'm just curious to find out if there are others in an identical position - there were masses of people at the event and from what I overheard the same offer was being made left right & centre. Also, tho I'm not feeling particularly hopeful about this, I wondered if anyone had any tips or suggestions as to how I might maximise my chances of getting something now? Plus I simply want to vent my anger a bit. I feel pretty peeved with RM right now - this is NOT a very good or respectful way to treat people who are desperate for work - I do realise that they have to tailor offers to demand & that can't be easy. But the whole application process seems a bit overkill for this sort of outcome, and they should NOT I think have issued a letter with what sounded like a firm offer if they weren't going to honour it!
