Angard casuals V Christmas casuals? EVERYONE PLEASE READ!!

Does anyone know if Angard casuals will still get work over Christmas? Baring in mind that they usually have soo many Christmas casuals. I'm wondering if they will still need Angardees.

Dont think Angard are running anything this year after last years SHAMBLES.. Royal mail got their fingers burned with that one, so they are organising the recriutment side of things.

Angard are running the "year round " casuals. RM have only taken back the Casuals who are working exclusively at Christmas. Angard asked us (the year round casuals) not to register with RM as we should be getting work via Angard for this period as usual

Angard's letter earlier in the year, that requested their casuals not to apply for Christmas casual, did say that the Christmas casuals are to supplement the Royal Mail staff and the regular Angard casuals.

I would like someone to explain how it is that November is upon us and loads of Christmas jobs are being snapped up in all industries and Angard are playing silly buggers in making us (Angardee's) wait?? Am I going to get work or not? Email sent last month and still no answer. I'm gonna be well fed up if I have no extra coming in

At the MC I work at the RM staff do not yet know what they are getting over the Christmas period. The RM staff should get first priority, then it should be Angard casuals then Christmas casuals but who knows how they will work things. They may decide that Angard staff can be replaced by Christmas casuals on cost grounds.

If you are AWR qualified and you do not work but Christmas casuals do, at your normal place of work, you would have a strong case for AWR avoidance by RM/Angard.

Quite agree this AWR has to be tested as I believe there are people who have been working as casuals even prior to AWR qualification that suddenly find that the phones not ringing.

I'm AWR qualified but I've had plenty of work since. I've worked full time since March. But still not sure if I'll get any work because there'll be plenty of Xmas casuals there. Could do with some time off I suppose...

If this is the case you need to read the government documentation on AWR and look specifically at AWR avoidance - that is what they are doing. I have posted a link to the AWR documentation on this forum and it is at the BIS website. Are you in the Union - if not it maybe beneficial to join quickly.

Have you anything in writing that you can post on the forum? I still haven't even received a reply from Angard on two request for information on the Christmas situation.

I'm digging out the letter from Angard as I believe they are liable for my loss of earnings by PREVENTING me from applying for a position with RM.

This stinks and will be this years big story...watch this space and the press!

Some of us have been trained on CFC machines ready for Christmas at the sorting office where I work, but they still haven't told us what hours we will be given. There are a whole load of new casuals who I assume are taken on by Royal Mail and who seem to be given more hours than us Angard employees who have been around since last Christmas. What a rubbish outfit RM are!

My "training" on CFC 2 years ago was basically "Press this button to start, that button to stop, dont touch the red stop buttons, take out this, this, this, this and this and keep it going", Learnt a lot more in the 2 years since.

Bit unfair VERGING!! But I guess it does prove the point that the job (any job) in RM can be done by anyone with a smigin of common sense most of the machines are simple to work and alot of office phocopiers require more training!...however I digress.

Perhaps paying someone that has qualified for AWR and therefore higher rates of pay for a job that can be done by anyone straight out of the Jobcenre or Uni student on MIN WAGE is why we have been overlooked for work this year?
