5 years work history verification??
Im concerned about the lack of work history and gaps in my employment. Can Royal Mail send letters asking if I worked at a particular place?

Work history is a little misleading - you do not have to be working for all the 5 years, Providing you can account for what you were doing (e.g. unemployed, self-employed, working, student, long term sick, on a sabbatacal travelling) you should be fine. You need to account for what you were doing with no 2 week gaps IIRC. I think they can check most of what you put down - not sure if they do.
