PPE (Personal Protective Equipment)

Looks like RM is proviing the gear this year folks, unlike Angard last year. I got a phone call today asking me what shoe size and hiviz size I require. It may be a weight off some folks minds if they were having trouble getting their own stuff :)

RM always gave me the required PPE and offered more, I've only ever had to ask for gloves (when working in distribution) as previous pair had worn out. I've always assumed they were legally bound to supply PPE for employees safety?

Angard certainly didn't supply footwear to us last year. I already had boots but lots of people there were just in trainers. It also took them about a week ro get any hivis vests and gloves but again, I already had mine as I'd worked for RM before.

It's been a long term argument in Royal Mail whether non-safety boots should be considered PPE since especially in delivery the type and condition of your footwear is crucial to your......... safety.
At the moment the position is no.

Sounds like Angard took the view the RM site were duty bound to supply the PPE. I never had any PPE from Angard, always RM. In fact, all Angard ever sent me was an ID badge that only lasted until it got wet, then it fell apart :)

According to the HSE and employment law it is up to the hirer to supply anything needed as PPE. As the hirer is the RM any need for PPE was always up to RM to supply and not Angard. Although they did a good job of passing the responsibility between each other and to the individual employee last year. Some employees were told by Angard to go and buy their own protective boots/shoes.
