Paid breaks. Fact or fiction?

Yesterday I was told by one of the backroom staff at my DO that we would be now getting paid breaks. Anyone else heard anything?

If your DO or MC give there permanents paid breaks and you have qualified for AWR rights at 12 weeks you are entitled to the same break conditions (paid and duration).

Cheers. I queried it with angard a couple of weeks back and they said I wasn't entitled to it. I'll complain about it again whilst trying to sort out the inevitable wrong pay slip

Still trying to get my first 3 weeks, back in February, of AWR sorted out (correct pay rates for shifts - not 6.08 and getting back my break times that were subtracted) so good luck.

Those of us who have done more than 12 weeks get a 20 min break on a 4 or 5 hour shift. On the night shift from 10pm to 6am we've been getting a 20 min break and then a 40 min break, but it seems as though they are still saying that we've only worked 7.5 hours so only 30 mins of the break is paid. I would have thought that the whole hour should be paid.
What breaks are other people getting on a night shift?

I'm an Angard employee, and from my understanding although we dont get paid breaks; our hourly pay rate is slightly higher than the normal posties so that the payment ends up being the same (ish)

If you've done more than 12 weeks,under the AWR you should get exactly what your Royal Mail colleagues get......paid breaks.

my rate is also higher than permanent staff .. reason could be as you mentioned ..

permanent staff also get bonuses .. i think every 6 months/or yearly .. and in christmas times .. ofcourse we casuals dont.

Our breaks are unpaid; we get 30 minutes deducted from our payslip after 6 hours of work.
Additionally the angard employees at my office have all now been informed that our breaks will no longer be equal in duration to that of the royal mail employees. The (flawed) justification being that royal mail employee rest periods were secured via their union and they had to take a deduction to their paycheque as part of negotiating the break. In nearly all cases we ARE given the tea break of 10 minutes (on-top) of the 30 minutes, but I am told that this is at the managers discretion, which seems plain wrong, and in breach of the equal treatment laws.

If they took a deduction in their pay for the extra breaks havent we also got that deduction as a result of AWR - this whole process of breaks/pay rate seems to mean they can tell us whatever they want. There does not appear to be a consistent way to compare what permanents get and what Angardees get. They appear to like to keep a smokescreen on these aspects on AWR. Guess nobody can actually say we are not getting what we are entitled to, as quite frankly, we have no idea if we are getting what we are entitled to..

Since there's no written record of breaks taken, casuals in our place have been getting paid breaks from day one. It's a case of the first rest period inside DO being just a cup of water, followed later by 20-40 minutes proper break away from Manager's clock (out on delivery). The DOM may make a guess as to who has had a break (from the delivery times) but there's no basis to deduct hours from the casuals' week.
