CHRISTMAS temp workers for Royal Mail may take legal action against the firm as they claim they are still waiting for some of their wages.

Andrew Hudson and Andrew Goostone both say they are owed cash for work in Derby's Midland Road sorting office in December.

A third man, Derek Ellison, says he has received most of the £473 he was owed by Royal Mail in three separate payments but that he is still waiting for some of his money.

Mr Goostone, of Smalley, said he worked at the sorting office for three weeks and was, last month, still owed £300 that he should have received before Christmas.

He now says he is £100 short. He said: "They promised me the money would be in my bank account the next day as far back as December 30. I've had several promises that they would pay within 24 hours since.

"I shall see what happens over the next couple of weeks but if I still haven't got it I would consider legal action."

A Royal Mail spokeswoman said the firm had "no record of an Andrew Goostone in the payroll records" but was continuing to investigate.

The wages saga began just after Christmas, when some of the 118 extra staff who worked at Royal Mail's Midland Road sorting office in Derby complained they had not received their wages.

The employment agency they had used was Angard Staffing Solutions, a firm owned by Royal Mail Group, set up earlier this year to handle the postal service's temporary worker requirements.

On January 6, the firm said it had paid most of those who missed out and said any outstanding wages would go into people's accounts over the weekend of January 7 and 8.

Mr Hudson, 42, of Fletcher Street, Heanor, was another who said he did not get his cash. He says he is still owed £50.

He said: "I will definitely take legal action if I haven't got the money by the end of the month.

"It's appalling and it makes you wonder whether they have the money to pay."

The Royal Mail spokeswoman said Angard had not got Mr Hudson's correct bank details but that this was resolved and the cash owed was being paid into his account.

Mr Ellison, 72, of Derby, said he was still owed £21 despite having received three separate payments, one of which was, at first, paid into the wrong account.

The former Royal Mail employee said he was continuing to pursue the cash through the Communication Workers' Union (CWU).

Royal Mail said Mr Ellison has received cash "to cover outstanding payments".

Dave Ward, CWU deputy general secretary, said the agency workers had been "very poorly treated".

He said: "The CWU has had meetings with Royal Mail and Angard at the highest level and is urging them to get a grip.

"Many payment issues have now been resolved but there are still some outstanding cases which we're urging the company to resolve urgently."

The Royal Mail spokeswoman said the firm had sent statements to each of their Christmas workers detailing how much they were owed.

She said: "Royal Mail's policy is very clear – everyone must be paid the correct amount for the work they have done.

"If anyone has any queries relating to their pay or payroll statement, they should contact Angard."

proceedings to recovery all wages owed to them by commencing Employment Tribunal, this is the only way
you are going to be heard.

It is virtually impossible to contact Angard or Payroll @ Reed Global, telephone calls and e-mails do not get
any response.
The last e-mail I sent to Angard Payroll was also sent to Moya Greene, and two other Directors of Royal Mail
which did generate a response from Moya Greene team who promised that my concerns had been passed to
Reed Global senior team (John Bishop) and someone from this team would contact me as a matter of urgency,
I am still waiting for this contact ..
My ET1 is accepted into the system and tribunal date set for March 27th. remember you only have 3 months
to get your ET1 into the system
