Parking fines: additional pressure on casuals.

Parking provision is very poor at the mail centre that I am working at. We have no alternative but to park on the road in the roads around the site, but you also have to park part-way onto the pavement. It really takes effort to park completely legally. As I was parking up this morning a traffic warden was booking the car opposite where I was parking. I had to put two wheels on the pavement but as I left my vehicle the traffic warden crossed over to my car and gave me the distinct impression that he was going to book mine too. I went back to my car and parked it about 1/4 mile away with all four wheels on the road. As I walked back I spotted another car that had been booked. We are paid so little with Angard that a parking fine would wipe out a day's pay. In my opinion neither car that had been booked really warranted it. This was on an industrial estate, at weekend. This was just a case of jobsworth on overtime. If it had happened to my car I would have been well sick.

There is a large car park at my MC (Canterbury) but even when its empty especially on nights your not allowed to park in it, another one of "them and us" Casual v regular niggles.

Peterborough Outhouse is "ok" for parking, but with 3 shifts its getting tight.

Unless there are car parking spaces going empty but casual staff are not allowed to use them, this isnt really Angards fault, more the councils fault.

Don't park on the footpath then, just park where there are no double yellow (or other parking restrictions).


ps.Over here the parking wardens can only fine you for parking outside the parking restrictions, any other parking offence (ie. parking either part or all on the pavement are dealt with by the police).

The rules about parking on footpaths seems to vary. The roads aren't wide enough to allow cars to park on both sides on the road without causing obstruction. There is a group locally that have been seeking to have the law about parking on footpaths enforced. They probably aren't struggling to park to earn a crust. I discovered one guy had been booked just 5 minutes before his shift ended.

Many of 'US' have to pay to park in the MC car park, deducted weekly out of our wages. So its not a free ride.

Some cars have been vandalised this week near the Mail Centre, mine included. It doesn't make sense, it's just mindless damage. It could have been an expensive repair but I have thankfully managed to locate a cheap replacement part thanks to ebay.
