Is such last minute recuirtment normal?

Hi im at the Peterborough Shrewsbury Avenue depot, and yesterday Royal Mail staff came round to ask us all, if we know anyone who could work a shift at Werrington, starts at 2, bringing passport (etc) I didnt know anyone who might be able to do it at such short notice (it was between 11am and midday), given that 1/3rd of the people who turned up on Monday got sent home, isnt this something Angard could take care of?

those one shift wonders, whilst they may have had a passport, will not have been security checked, it seems odd that between Angard and any other agencys, they could not have arranged things better, it seems a pretty desperate move.

i just laughed at it tbh its obvious they have cocked up big style wait until monday 12th dec busiest posting day of the year watch the place get rinsed did anyone see the feature on the news tonight about the other local depots in peterborough?nice little right up i would say shame its all fiction in reality

I think its clear this is my first time working with the Royal Mail in any form, but one thing that worries me is that whilst sorting packages (mostly from Amazon) is easy, sorting letters on the other hand is something that takes a couple of days to pick up, even more so when dealing with miswritten post codes, and the other staff (most as inexperienced as me) who just leave things lying around, so you have no clue what is sorted, in some form and what isnt.

I give for example, a tray of letters which wiere mostly two post codes (same sot) which it turned out had been sorted, and put in that box, as the slot was full, but I didnt know to look for label, nor was there a label so I put half the tray back into a slot, before realising what happened.

Alot of inexperienced staff, not being fully trained or given support from experience workers on this kind of thing.

Add in people recruited in the method I describe that is a recipe for disaster.

It does not need saying on this forum, but I would like to stress the need for people to include a post code, and write it in block capitals, even people doing letters for the first time will get that, once they have decided what is north and what is south.
