An 'unofficial' forum for those who either work for Royal Mail or are looking to work for Royal Mail through the Angard Staffing Agency. This is an open forum.
On the last 3 strike days Angard agency workers have crossed our picket lines and gone in to work I counted at least 30 on the early shift at our Mail Centre which is very frustrating as they are breaking our strike and helping the company to process work
I would ask any angard workers who use this site not to cross our picket line and support us in our fight against the company as be under no illusion if they win this dispute against us you guys will be next so please do the right thing and stay at home also join the CWU stick together and hopefully we will all come out of this better

Have had a few in our mc aswell. but thank goodness majority have stayed out just make themselves unavailable for shifts on strike days.
Manpower is refusing to supply workers when we strike, but Angard being part of Royal Mail they are being used to undermine the strike.

The common reply from people working strike days was that Angard are not on strike so they worked when offered work. I was offered as many hours as I like on strike days if I worked by a manager and they were surprised when told I won't work on strike days. Most of the people working at my mail centre on strike days are young and from overseas. Their understanding of a picket line seemed to be it was to stop Royal Mail staff coming in.
No point in Angard staff joining the CWU, although some do, as union policy is to oppose the use of casual staff. Have a look on the CWU website, there is no attempt to recruit Angard employees on the site. It the CWU started recruiting Angard in large numbers they would have to admit they accept zero hour contracts in Royal Mail.
As regards Angard staff joining the CWU, it’s very useful to me in terms if representation when I had a major Grievance about the unequal allocation of shifts, favouritism and corruption in my MC.
I believe that some of the membership benefits are worthwhile - although I haven’t tried those yet
I’m in CWU virtually since I joined Angard >5 years ago.
I come from a former mining community so am reluctant to cross picket lines.
I didn’t go in for the first two strike days snd, by coincidence, will be away, visiting relatives this coming week.
However I DO need to earn money so how long I can keep going is a matter of conjecture.
I really do not want to be in the position of letting down my RM colleagues.
There are so few shifts now at my MC that most 'regulars' have moved on. I'm still with Angard but as it was a nice summer wasn't overly bothered about getting hardly any hours other than the occasional shift to keep the higher rate. If the hours don't pick up I'll find something else for the winter. I won't work strike days but was hoping for some extra hours clearing the backlog to avoid the hassle of findng another job but so far one day strikes have had little effect. Within a couple of hours of the CWU cancelling the second strike day all the Angard prebooked shifts for the following Monday were cancelled by RM.

Hope someone can answer this question. I have a shift starting 10pm Thursday finishing 6am Friday. At what point am I strike breaking? When do RM night shift walk out?

If your shift starts before 04.00 Friday you work the whole shift as normal even if your finishing time puts you into a strike day. The night shift will be on strike the whole of Friday and Saturday nights.
