Although the number of Angard staff on the books at a large MC like Tyneside isn’t the only thing leading to cancellations and so few shifts, it’s a major factor. They are clearly overstaffed with Angardees, so why the continuous recruitment? So they can save money by paying the newbies minimum wage?
There will doubtless be missorts galore and missed tracked and reggies because the staff are not trained properly or encouraged to take any pride in their work. They are just a number. It takes time to learn the nuances of the job (split postcodes, etc). I’ve worked at several MCs and I notice at the smaller sites the staff, even Angard, are trained to sort more carefully and not blindly trust postcodes, and to always be on the lookout for Tracked etc.
Another thing leading to cancellations is RM staff volunteering for overtime at the last minute. I would have thought there would be a cut off time to volunteer for a shift, after which time RM call in Angard - but I’ve been told by managers that they will replace an Angardee with a RM volunteer on the day itself, if need be.

They want a huge pool of staff to be able to call on at Christmas - and even then it’s not enough people.
