finally giving up

sadly after 5 years with angard finally admiting defeat . we are almost in the middle of july and my total hours to date for work from january to now are just 65 . after putting in 2 grievences about lack of shifts blocked phone calls , and getting the usauall ballshit replies . the straw that broke the camels back was after a very minor accident ended up needing surgery last week. and as a result am now going to be off any work for between 4 and 6 weeks . after all the hard work i have put in over the last 5 years if and when i am fit enough to return to work i will need to be re vetted and start from scratch , well if they think i am traveling 2 hours each way per shift by public transport for minimum wage they can go whistle . to all you poor sods still there thinking that the union will do anything you are sadly wrong . by law agency staff are entitled to stat sick pay , i am just waiting for the bullshit to come back fron angard when my sick note hits there desk . i will miss some of the lads at CARDIFF had some good times there , but the way the system is being run from angard if you are basically white you got sod all chance of a shift , union no good acas cant do much if anything , if i had the time and money to take angard to court, would i bother ? no life is to short , the sooner angard is gone from my life the better . if you work for angard and want things to improve the only way that will hapen is if somebody nukes the poxy place . how royal mail have stayed in buisness for so long is a mystery. time to start jumping before it goes down like the titanic and takes everyone down with them
thanks to all the decent guys at CARDIFF and that includes a couple of decent managers who have been s**t on as well you have been great to work with over the years and you will be missed, so will the late night breaks in the smoking shed , you know who you are . time to say goodbye
lets just see how long this takes to get removed

As far as I remember if you inform them you are sick or if you book holidays the re-vetting clock is paused or possibly reset

If you are off sick the AWR clock stops as long as Angard have a 'fit note' off you. To qualify for SSP you have to be earning at least £113 per week https://www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay/eligibility so if you have had hardly any shifts you may not qualify via Angard. When I was off sick for a month last year Angard sent me a form to fill in to claim SSP.

I don't check this forum out very often and I have no idea why I decided to check it out today, but I'm glad I did. From your comments in this post, and after reading your other posts on this forum I'm pretty sure I know you. Specially the comment about 'the late night breaks in the smoking shed' and if I'm not mistaken also catching the train home together, at least for one stop.
When shifts are as infrequent as they are these days you can go for months without seeing certain people and both of you be left wondering if the other had quit, only to bump into them again and find out that you'd been getting the occasional Friday shift and they had been getting the occasional Monday shift. I'd kind of hoped that was what happened in your case. Anyway, things go on the same way. Shifts are scarce and most of them go to guys who put themselves on the stand-by list (as if a zero hour contract with Angard wasn't already being on stand-by) often getting called at 23:30 for a midnight start. Despite the fact that you were definately screwed over by Angard and the Royal Mail a little part of me is jealous. 'Angard is gone from my life'.. Those words certainly have a certain appeal.
Sorry to see you go! And good luck in moving on to something better. If I'm mistaken (I'm sure I'm not) and I don't actually know you it doesn't matter. I'm still sorry to see you go and wish you the best in the future.

Also, get well soon and look after yourself.

Atleast you dont need to put up with their bullshit anymore plus there's better jobs out there, not zero hour bullshit. REGARDS, Angard worker at PRDC

Just picking up on a comment above about a “standby list” - I’ve not heard of such a thing at our mail centre. So - some people are on a “call list” to say they are happy to accept shifts at very short notice?

Don't know about that , but some people are on a " favourites " list who get shifts every week , no matter how "quiet" it is.

You build up a profile with Angard and they have a list of who will accept shifts at very short notice. I've had one 4 hour shift in the last 3 weeks and when I talk to other people they are getting 3 or 4 shifts a week at the moment. Swings and roundabouts I suppose as when I was getting a few shifts the same people were getting nothing. The one time I did get a text there was nowhere I could pull up in the car for at least ten minutes and with the queuing system they now use didn't see the point in ringing so long after the text was sent.

Anybody heard anything in regards to the Christmas period shifts? Last year I only got 3x4 hours per week from Angard (got more hours direct from RM who couldn't understand why the regulars weren't in) so I'm quite tempted to say sod it and book a couple of weeks holiday to avoid the chaos if we are only going to be offered scraps again.

With regards to the question to my post by Lockardian. Yes, at my sorting office Angard/ReedGlobal DO (to be correct I'm talking about the end of last year, not had a shift this year yet) text us with requests to be added to a "standby list" (their words). The meaning of this was never explained, but the truth of it is that you won't get offered normal shifts by Angard, but you will more likely get a call "outside office hours" from the Royal Mail office to come in at short notice. Seems like zero hour contract workers just aren't flexible enough.

Read your contract. You are just a "casual resource"
