Angard casuals V Christmas casuals? EVERYONE PLEASE READ!!

We also received a letter from Angard asking us not to apply to Royal Mail for Christmas work as there would be enough work for us over the Christmas period. Yesterday we found out the posts would be going to staff recruited by Royal Mail and there would be no work for Angard, so Royal Mail appear to have shafted Angard and by association us as we'll. I wonder if this is a country wide phenomena or just local to us?

Not sure where you work but this is the case in the South West. I work at an RDC and all year there has been plenty of work for us Angardees. Now the RM casuals have started our work has all but dried up, we have gone from 5/6 shifts a week to 2 or 3 and are having to look at other local RM sites to try and top up or take keave to keep some money coming in. I (we) feel we have been stuffed by RM and by Angard as well. The letter we all received from Angard asking us not to apply for Xmas casual work direct with RM has stitched us up, we were daft enough to go along with it and now we have little work as a result. Pretty sure this is all about money as being AWR we cost more than the casuals BUT here is an interesting thought, why have twice the number of RM Xmas casuals in compared to the normal headcount from Angard? If we Angard (AWR) cost about twice what Xmas casuals do (round figures so please excuse) then the cost to RM is about the same, what RM do get for their money is twice the number of staff in, no experience and mistake after mistake after mistake, and I am sorry to say but a large number of very lazy casual workers in 'work avoidance mode'. This has really ticked a large number of Angardees right off. Funny thing is, after Xmas RM will expect us Angardees all to be back happy smiling faces ready to get stuck in to work again - right........

I agree totally with the quote of" wildewestie" Royal mail is overloading with numbers, some assuming casual means slack, who only have basic induction training so putting safety of themselves & others at risk.

Have any Angard casuals had any shifts at all lately? I was amazed that I managed to get a Saturday shift.

We've got 1. But we've also got quite a few from Manpower, I've no idea why.

We've had our Angard casuals in all last week, when they send all the casuals home early near the end of the night its only the xmas ones that get sent home early

I really dont get the Manpower thing either... I thought they were employed when Angard couldn't provide enough workers. Im sure the latter could rustle up more than 1 in the Xmas season!

And this gets back to a point I have made before, despite Manpower workers earning £6.19, what Manpower actually charge RM may not be that much less than Angard do (and I appreciate they are owned by RM, but they must charge some sort of realistic rate "on paper")

That's the cause of most of RM's problems in my opinion.

not sure ive spotted any Angard at the Outhouse, plenty of Manpower and First Callers however, and I know First Caller gets £13 something, per hour, per casual from the Royal Mail.

Angard must (nominally at least) charge more than that considering what they pay to AWR people, but of course if Manpower, for example, had staff with RM for 12 weeks they'd have to pay a higher rate too. Its often forgetten in conversations here that the AWR isn't an "Angard Rate" its for ALL qualifying agency workers and is related to the regular RM rates. Angard rates (non AWR) I beleive are the minimum wage plus a 50p night bonus. What is the situation regarding CRB checks? Do these Agencies have "specials" who have the CRB clearance already? - because If they are made just when people work for RM it must be expensive to administrate.

Wellin our case, we get the same people, whenever we get Manpower staff in. Although there have been some new faces this year. I can't say for certain what checks they'll have had, but they've been turning up on and off (whenever Angard let us down normally) for some time, so I assume they must have been checked.

We did finally get a few Angard in this week. But not before we got several Managers from other sites, to process the Mail. Now I don't have any problems with the Manpower lot coming in, because they were coming in from time to time, before Angard was set up. But when we have Managers drafted in to do OPG work the day BEFORE we get Angard staff in (and they're still here too!). Then there's something seriously wrong!

I always think there are loads of Angardees who are waiting around for work but I guess it varies from site to site.
