Amazon Signs Contract with Swiss Post, Entry into the Switzerland Imminent

Amazon has recently signed an official partnership agreement with Swiss Post, which means they will soon commence custom clearance for Amazon as soon as everything has been settled.

Amazon has several retail operations in Europe but plans to service Switzerland from Germany. Because Switzerland is not part of the EU block, shipments into the country will require customs clearance.

“We expect the first packages to arrive in December or January”, according to a person involved with the agreement, wrote Bilanz. Fliex Stierli, who is head of postal customs clearance at Swiss Post, has verified that the postal agency is currently speaking with Amazon. “But there are still a few operational details we need to clarify”, he adds.

Amazon also expressed its interest in the Swiss eCommerce industry. According to Amazon.de country manager Ralph Kleber, they consider the Swiss customer extremely important to them and don’t want to disappoint them in any way.

24-Hour Delivery Option Now Possible

The agreement calls for customs clearance to only take a maximum of three hours, making 24-hour delivery possible. Amazon Prime customers located in Germany already enjoy this service, so the company wants to extend the same offering to Switzerland.

Once Amazon launches in Switzerland, consumers will be able to access the retail giants list of online merchandise with next business day delivery.

Amazon recently launched its Prime service in Luxembourg, giving consumers the option to have a next-day delivery available for their orders.

This service is also managed from German Amazon fulfillment warehouses, so it appears Amazon is using Germany as a central hub for smaller surrounding countries.

The service offering also includes Amazon Prime Video. And Amazon Prime membership includes promotional shopping days, access to Twitch and Prime Photos.

The company’s online service has become a huge part of Amazon’s success, with an estimate of at least 50% of US households using the service by the end of the year.
