There is a war on for delivery services, and all now expect it free. 1 simple solution could prove the deciding factor in this war. Alternatively, if all companies adopt this same solution, all would get an increased profitability, AND it would be better for the consumer.
People have holidays and all sorts of reasons to be out. Most sites ASSUME the customer wants the ordered item ASAP, but this is NOT the case.
In today's busy world, internet shopaholics, tired new parents, and busy businesses want the ability to order an item NOW (while they remember and are on-line), but do not want the item shipped util a specified date.
If this selected delivery (and this need not necessitate an awkward guaranteed slot, but merely a 'don't deliver until after the 29th' for example) were an option of the retailers' sites, or if the delivery company (as some do) informed of the default delivery date and gave the option to delay), then more parcels would get to the customers without the added faff for all concerned of failed deliveries.
I have an order from IKEA that's arriving during my holiday. This is a waste of everybody's time, and surely some profit to someone.
