A STRESSED postman chucked scores of presents in a bin – because he couldn’t cope with the demands of Christmas, it is alleged.

“Overwhelmed” by the increase in his workload Daniel Darby, 25, bought three white rubbish bags on December and stuffed letters in them, court documents claim.

The bags were discovered on December 4 – two days after Darby had ditched them.

And the crooked courier, from Queens, New York, even admitted to “ripping open” some mail “to see what it contained”.

Another postman – James Hayden – is accused of swiping 50 gift cards from envelopes so he could treat himself on goodies worth more than $1000 (€920).

Hayden who worked in Brooklyn, New York, has admitted to throwing away cards which didn’t have gift cards in.

Amazingly, he was caught out after his own mum called the post office to complain her gift card had never arrived at its destination.

Authorities found his wallet stuffed full of gift cards before arresting him on December 21, court papers state.

Both men face up to five years in prison and a $250,000 (€230,000) fine.
