Even though Whistl had only 3 Delivery Offices across the UK the amount of criticism had to have a major influence on yesterday decision. The Original plan over the next two years the company was to set up a rival delivery service which would have taken delivery services across 40% of the population, but only covered 5% of the area of the UK. Basically Cherry Picking!
The problem the company found was they couldn't offer an effective redirection service, mis-deliveries, wrongly addressed items and dumped mail by there low paid staff ended up back in the Royal Mail pipeline. Royal Mail would then Surcharge all the items starting at £1.54 rising to higher amounts for larger packets.
Royal Mail set up a separate office to deal and redirect the complaints to Whistl HQ also supplying Customers who had been charged on how to get back the money they were owed from the Company. This led to administration nightmare for the company and was very often picked up by the local press.
A major Expansion by the company could have led to a PR disaster and damaged Whistl/TNT/PostNL image as a effective delivery company.

Not so good when an oversized birthday card is surcharged £1 something
but £1.54 for each Whistl item is just about right
.
Well done Moya.
