Singapore Post to install energy-efficient sorting machine at main sorting office

A new energy-efficient LS-4000 sorter from Crisplant, which provides automated sortation technology, will be added to the existing sortation system at Singapore Post’s (SingPost) main sorting office in the Paya Lebar region, in the North East of the country.

In addition to cutting energy consumption by around 75% compared to conventional sorters, the new LS-4000 cross-belt loop sorter will enable SingPost to increase its capacity and provide added flexibility to handle a higher number of parcels.

Currently SingPost sorts 2.4 million letters, 400,000 flats, 200,000 packets and 15,000 parcels per day, of which around 85% are delivered on the next working day. With the growth of e-commerce expected to increase the number of parcels and packets to around 400,000 per day by 2025, and SingPost aiming for 95% next-day delivery, the new system has been designed for easy scalability to meet future growth in demand.

High-capacity dynamic induction and optical character recognition (OCR) will be used to increase the read rate and the overall efficiency of the sorting process, which is designed to handle around 14,400 trays per hour.

The availability of a local support team was a significant factor in SingPost’s decision to award the contract for the new sorter to Crisplant.
