Regulator Investigates Deutsche Post Letter Prices -Report

FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- The country's network regulator is investigating if Deutsche Post AG (DPW.XE) charges large corporate customers prices that are too low for competitors to gain access to the market, magazine Wirtschaftswoche reports Thursday in a pre-release of Friday's edition.

The investigation of the Bundesnetzagentur comes after competitors of the German logistics and mailing company had complained to the regulator that Deutsche Post charges anti-competitive prices, according to the magazine.

Instead of charging large customers the usual rate for ordinary letters, Deutsche Post has been asking the lower price that mass mailings--known as Infopost--cost, the magazine says.

The Bundesnetzagentur wasn't immediately available to comment.

A Deutsche Post spokesman told Dow Jones Newswires that he isn't aware of formal preliminary proceedings but the Bundesnetzagentur told his company about the accusations of competitors.

He added that Deutsche Post had commented to the regulator on the issue.

Deutsche Post's customers can send letters as Infopost if they meet specific requirements like a minimum number of similar letters and it is up to customers, which letters they send by Infopost, the spokesman said.

So in Germany Deutsche Post charges large corporate customers prices that are too low for competitors to gain access to the market. :Very Happy
And in Britain Royal Mail offers competitors DSA prices so low that market share of lucrative large corporate customer's mail is inevitably lost to other carriers.
