After an extended period of discussions, TNT Post and the Abvakabo FNV, CNV Publieke Zaak, and BVPP unions have reached agreement in principle regarding limiting the number of compulsory redundancies occurring as a result of the impending reorganisations. As a result of the volume decline in mail, TNT Post will be making drastic changes in its organisation in the coming years. This will result in the loss of 11,000 jobs among Operations employees. Allowing for natural attrition and voluntary departures, 4,500 compulsory redundancies are expected to be necessary. This number will now be reduced by retaining 1,700 jobs through the “Auto Unit”, at TNT Post’s Parcel Service and elsewhere in the company. TNT Post has also promised to study possible ways of keeping an additional 200 jobs at the “Auto Unit” during future organisational changes. The company will be offering 300 employees temporary employment up to the end of 2013.

The parties have also agreed to increase the involvement of assisted reemployment agency TNT Mobility, with the aim of decreasing the number of employees needing to claim unemployment benefit by an additional 500. TNT and the unions will also study the ways in which employees in jobs that are scheduled to be shed can be assisted in finding work elsewhere through a secondment company to be set up by an external party. TNT Post and the unions jointly call on the government directly to help this plan succeed.

Last Tuesday, the results of the investigation into dissatisfaction in the workplace at TNT Post carried out by the ArboNed health and safety service were released. TNT Post takes the signs of disquiet among its employees very seriously and is working on a firm plan of action to improve the situation. Agreements on this matter have been included in the agreement in principle.

The unions will present the agreement in principle to their employees with a recommendation for acceptance and will not undertake any further industrial action.
