Courier agony as Great Dane bites off his nose

Postie agony as Great Dane bites off his nose

A COURIER who had his nose ripped off by a dog told today how surgeons have reconstructed the centre of his face.

Stephen McQuiggin, 54, has dozens of stitches and needs six months of surgery to get his nose back.

And when his six-year-old son, Fynn, saw his dad, he was physically sick because of the horrific injuries.

Now Stephen has hit out at the dog owners, Mark and Carol Crawford, of Chester-le-Street, County Durham, after they refused to get the animal, a Great Dane, destroyed.

“I was delivering a Next parcel when the dog just came for me,” said Stephen of Hambledon Avenue, Chester-le-Street.

“I was on a public footpath as the driveway was blocked by a van and a bin. Two Great Dane dogs were there but one just jumped over the bin and went for my face.

“There was not time to defend myself and blood was just spurting out. I was soaked in blood.”

Stephen, who has been a courier for more than three years, had two operations after the incident three weeks ago and is due to have a third tomorrow at the University Hospital of North Durham.

He said: “The surgeons have taken a two-inch piece of skin from my forehead and flipped it over to make a new nose. It’s amazing what they can do these days.

“I’m really shocked that the owners don’t want to destroy this dog. If it turned on a child it could kill.”

Stephen will lose out on around £1,200 in earnings over the next six months and has had to ask for advice on benefits to support sons Fynn, six, Rowan, nine, Gabriel, 10, Jake, 13, Taylor, 15 and Jordan, 18.

His daughters
Tiffany, three, Ruby, five, and Carly, 21, live with his estranged wife.

Stephen said: “The kids have taken it really badly. We sent Fynn a picture of me before he came into the hospital to see me just so he could get used to the idea of my face being the way it was. But when he saw me he was physically sick. My 18-year-old son also really took it bad.

“It is a six-month process to get my nose back and then it is a healing process after that. Obviously I will be scarred for life but I can live with few tram lines. I’m lucky I didn’t lose my sight.”

The Crawfords were unavailable for comment.

Police said a Great Dane had been seized pending further inquiries.

I feel for this guy and hope he makes full recovery.

I love it when the dogs chew up the letter and packets I post through, I also make sure the packet is between the door and my lower leg when the door opens so that the dog will get the packet first, fûck them :evil/mad
