Polish Post hopes to save 1.6 billion zloty over the next five years thanks to a new corporate strategy that aims to prepare the company for the liberalisation of postal services in Poland.
The postal services market in Poland is to be fully opened for competition in 2013, as foreseen by an EU directive. Polish Post will then lose its monopoly on postal services for letters up to 50 grams.
After performance in 2009 saw Polish Post lose 195 million zloty (48 milion euro), this year’s balance may be closer to zero. Head of the postal service, Andrzej Polakowski told the press that “next year, we want to earn 150 million zloty.”
The company is to undertake a new strategy that will restructure its sales network, and is not looking for state subsidies when the market liberalisation occurs.
“Our efforts at restructuring [the company] are to make sure that such help will not be needed,” Polakowski said. (jb)

The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

A Scotsman announces to his wife that he is going out for the evening.
"I'm going to the pub now. Put your coat on."
"Why? Are you taking me with you?"
"No. I'm turning the heating off
